O intérprete de Libras: trajetória e profissionalização em São Luís do Maranhão

Abstract

Como, quando e porque surgiu a figura do intérprete de Libras e o que foi feito para que este profissional pudesse ter mais espaço diante da sociedade? O presente estudo tem por objetivo registrar a trajetória histórica dos Intérpretes de Libras em São Luís do Maranhão desde o início, em meados da década de 80 até o presente momento. Pouco se tem registrado sobre o início da profissão na capital maranhense e, para responder aos questionamentos, foram realizadas entrevistas com aqueles que foram pioneiros no serviço de interpretação tanto no âmbito religioso quanto no educacional. A abordagem desta pesquisa é qualitativa, uma vez que se prende aos acontecimentos e não aos números, sendo uma pesquisa exploratória quanto aos seus objetivos, uma vez que visa o registro da atuação inicial e o desenvolvimento da profissão de intérprete de Libras em São Luís, a fim de tornar este tema mais claro para a comunidade em geral. Com a análise de dados obtidos, foi constatado que houve um grande empenho para que a profissão chegasse ao nível de reconhecimento atual, garantindo aspectos legais, concursos nas esferas federal, estadual e municipal.

How, when and why did the figure of the interpreter of Libras arise and what was done so that this professional could have more space before the society? The present study aims to record the historical trajectory of the Interpreters of Pounds in São Luís do Maranhão from the beginning, in the middle of the 80's until the present moment. Little has been recorded about the beginning of the profession in the Maranhão capital and, to answer the questions, interviews were conducted with those who were pioneers in the interpretation service both in the religious as in the educational. The approach of this research is qualitative, since it is related to the events and not to the numbers, being an exploratory research as to its objectives, since it aims at recording the initial performance and the development of the profession of interpreter of Libras in São Luís, in order to make this theme clearer for the community at large. With the analysis of data obtained, it was verified that there was a great commitment for the profession to reach the current level of recognition, guaranteeing legal aspects, contests at federal, state and municipal levels.
