A atuação de Human Life International na promoção da agenda antiaborto em países da América Latina

Abstract

Tendo em vista que o aborto constitui um problema grave de saúde e justiça social, especialmente nos países latino-americanos, a problemática deste trabalho está em investigar e compreender qual o papel que a instituição conservadora católica sediada nos Estados Unidos – Human Life International – desempenha nos países da América Latina na promoção de uma agenda antiaborto, em especial a partir da década de 1980. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, guiada pela perspectiva teórica feminista, com o destaque necessário ao recorte de classe e raça, além de um foco direcionado à influência da religião católica na região e no uso da mesma como justificativa da atuação anti-aborto da HLI. Foi possível identificar que a HLI atua sob o pretexto de educar e formar agentes que atuem em prol da “cultura da vida”, além de possuir uma vertente intervencionista, expressa por seu vínculo e apoio aos centros de gravidez em crise. Sob esse ponto de vista, a HLI pode ser considerada um veículo de intervenção de uma classe dominante masculina, heteronormativa, branca e privilegiada dos Estados Unidos nas comunidades latino-americanas.

Considering that abortion is a serious health and social justice problem, especially in Latin American countries, the problematic of this work is to ivestigate and understand the role that the conservative, catholic institution Human Life International, based in the United Stats plays in promoting and anti-abortion agenda from the 1980s onwards in Latin American countries. This is an exploratory research, guided by a feminist theoretical perspective, with the necessary emphasis on class and race, as well as focus aimed at the influence of the catholic religion in the region and its use as a justification for the anti-abortion action of HLI. It was possible to identify that HLI acts under the pretext of educating and training agentes who work in favor of the “culture of life”, in addition to having na interventionist approach, expressed by its bond and support to crisis pregnancy centers. From this point of view, HLI can be considered a vehicle for the intervention of a male, heteronormative, White and privileged US ruling class in Latin American communities
