The management of solid urban waste (USW) has had considerable development in recent years; however, in emerging countries such as Brazil, the process is more complex, as there are deficiencies in the collection system and irregular deposit in public places. The objective of this work is to evaluate the MSW management model in the municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE, considering the operation and compliance with the National Solid Waste Policy, Law 12.305/10. The methodology consisted of an interview with the representative of the Executive Secretariat for Urban Services of the municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE, considering the institutional guidelines. As a method of data analysis, the Content Analysis technique was adopted. The municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes takes into account the State Solid Waste Plan, and the Executive Secretariat of Municipal Services is responsible for collecting, selecting and disposing of the RSU (CTR Candeias). The results show that the municipality provides sweeping services, cleaning canals and beaches, weeding roads, pruning and inspection. Household MSW is the largest proportion, but there is a sizable percentage of the construction industry |

A gestão de Resíduos Sólidos Urbanos (RSU) teve um desenvolvimento considerável nos últimos anos; no entanto, em países emergentes como o Brasil, o processo é mais complexo, pois há deficiências no sistema de coleta e depósito irregular em locais públicos. O objetivo do trabalho é avaliar o modelo de gestão de RSU do município de Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE, considerando a operação e atendimento à Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos, Lei 12.305/10. A metodologia consistiu em uma entrevista com o representante da Secretaria Executiva de Serviços Urbanos do município de Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE, considerando as diretrizes institucionais. |
