A Guerra do Iêmen como Manifestação da Balança de Poder entre Irã e Arábia Saudita: uma análise das guerras proxy

Abstract

O Oriente Médio vive uma série de conflitos desde o século passado, especialmente após a Primavera Árabe. Apesar dessas instabilidades terem diversas razões, a influência do Irã e da Arábia Saudita nesses contextos torna-se cada vez mais recorrente. Ambos os países buscam ampliar sua esfera de poder, apoiando grupos aliados e envolvendo-se em conflitos em países vizinhos. A Guerra do Iêmen é um exemplo claro dessa dinâmica, pois o conflito tornou-se um proxy da rivalidade Irã-Arábia Saudita, com o envolvimento direto ou indireto de outros atores regionais e internacionais. A partir da pergunta Em que medida a guerra do Iêmen se configura como parte da balança de poder entre Irã e Arábia Saudita por meio das guerras proxy? e através do método hipotético-dedutivo, a hipótese principal deste trabalho é que a disputa pelo poder no Oriente Médio tem levado o país persa e o reino saudita a se envolverem em conflitos como a guerra proxy travada no Iêmen. A luta pelo controle do Estado iemenita reflete o esforço desses dois países em garantir uma posição de destaque no subcontinente, além de aumentar a instabilidade na região como um todo.

The Middle East has been experiencing a series of conflicts since the last century, especially after the Arab Spring. Despite these instabilities having several reasons, the influence of Iran and Saudi Arabia in these contexts becomes increasingly recurrent. Both countries seek to expand their sphere of power, supporting allied groups and getting involved in conflicts in neighboring countries. The Yemen War is a clear example of this dynamic, as the conflict became a proxy for the Iran-Saudi Arabia rivalry, with the direct or indirect involvement of other regional and international actors. From the question To what extent is the war in Yemen configured as part of the power balance between Iran and Saudi Arabia through proxy wars? and through the hypothetical-deductive method, the main hypothesis of this work is that the struggle for power in the Middle East has led the Persian country and the Saudi kingdom to become involved in conflicts such as the proxy war fought in Yemen. The struggle for control of the Yemeni state reflects the efforts of these two countries to secure a prominent position in the subcontinent, in addition to increasing instability in the region as a whole.
