Fontes de informação genealógica disponíveis na Internet

Abstract

A busca pela ancestralidade é também uma forma de autoconhecimento do ser humano. O principal estudo sobre as linhagens familiares é a genealogia que, no Século XXI, tem se tornado popular pela possibilidade de acessar informações pela internet. Considerando o aumento de fontes de informações genealógicas relevantes online, o artigo busca compreender a Internet como fonte de informação genealógica e sua potencialidade para inovação nas pesquisas sobre ancestralidade. Para auxiliar o alcance deste objetivo, foram desenvolvidos os seguintes objetivos específicos: pesquisar sobre a internet como fonte de informação genealógica; identificar tipologias de fontes de informação disponíveis na internet sobre genealogia. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa foi de natureza aplicada, de abordagem qualitativa caracterizada pela investigação dialética e exploratória. Os procedimentos técnicos foram os de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental e os instrumentos de coleta e análise foram fichamento, caderno de campo e planilhas do Microsoft Excel. Como resultados, o artigo apresenta o mapeamento de 62 fontes de informação genealógica que podem ser encontradas na internet a partir da seguinte classificação: Arquivos públicos nacionais e internacionais; árvores genealógicas online; associações e instituições genealógicas; bancos de dados; bibliotecas e hemerotecas digitais; museus; registros militares; sites dedicados à genealogia; instituições de genealogia genética. Conclui-se que a internet já é uma inestimável fonte de informação genealógica e que as pesquisas na área de Ciência da Informação podem auxiliar com instrumentos de identificação e avaliação das informações disponíveis.

The search for ancestry is also a form of human self-knowledge. The main study on family lines is genealogy, which, in the 21st century, has become popular due to the possibility of accessing information on the internet. Considering the increase in sources of relevant genealogical information online, the article seeks to understand the Internet as a source of genealogical information and its potential for innovation in research on ancestry. To help achieve this objective, the following specific objectives were developed: research on the internet as a source of genealogical information; identify types of sources of information available on the internet on genealogy. Methodologically, the research was applied in nature, with a qualitative approach characterized by dialectical and exploratory investigation. The technical procedures were those of bibliographic and documental research and the instruments of collection and analysis were records, field notebook and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. As a result, the article presents the mapping of 60 sources of genealogical information that can be found on the internet from the following classification: National and international public archives that provide sources of genealogical information on their websites; online family trees; genealogical associations and institutions; databases; digital libraries and newspaper libraries; museums; military records; websites dedicated to genealogy; genetic genealogy institutions. It is concluded that the internet is already an invaluable source of genealogical information and that research in Information Science can help with instruments for identifying and evaluating the information available.
