O engajamento de Lee Pierce Butler com a vertente humanística da biblioteconomia estadunidense

Abstract

Com o intuito de descrever sobre um dos principais pesquisadores da área da Biblioteconomia, esse trabalho sobre a vida de Lee Pierce Butler, perpassa por sua trajetória pessoal, profissional e acadêmica. Além disso, traz alguns conceitos que norteiam suas ideias e sua visão humanística sobre a ideia da Biblioteconomia como ciência. Dessa forma, o objetivo geral desse trabalho é identificar a contribuição de Butler encontrada na literatura científica junto à análise de sua principal obra. Ademais, é apresentado os objetivos específicos, quais sejam, identificar a sua presença na literatura científica da Biblioteconomia, compreender a visão humanística de Butler e descrever, de forma sumária, a obra “An introduction to Library Science”, em sua versão traduzida. Esse artigo procurou trazer uma pesquisa bibliográfica e exploratória com abordagem qualitativa sobre o assunto, explorando 06 trabalhos já publicados e as visões de seus autores sobre o tema. Dessa forma, subsidiado por trabalhos anteriores, busca contribuir para a compreensão da relação de Butler com a Biblioteconomia.

In order to describe one of the main researchers in the field of Librarianship, this work about the life of Lee Pierce Butler, covers his personal, professional and academic trajectory. Furthermore, it brings some concepts that guide its ideas and its humanistic vision on the idea of Librarianship as a science. Thus, the general objective of this work is to identify Butler's contribution found in scientific literature together with the analysis of his main work. Furthermore, the specific objectives are presented, namely, identify its presence in the scientific literature of Library Science, understand Butler's humanistic vision and describe, in summary form, the work “An introduction to Library Science”, in its translated version. This article sought to provide bibliographical and exploratory research with a qualitative approach on the subject, exploring 06 already published works and their authors' views on the topic. In this way, supported by previous works, it seeks to contribute to the understanding of Butler's relationship with Librarianship.
