A problemática epistemológica no jovem Carnap: fontes e tensões

Abstract

O presente trabalho oferece uma reconstrução crítica dos programas de Rudolf Carnap no período que se estende de suas primeiras publicações acadêmicas até Der logische Aufbau der Welt em 1928. Concentrando-se na concepção de epistemologia que os anima, esses programas são examinados a partir de uma perspectiva histórica, apontando-se as fontes de seus pressupostos na tradição filosófica anterior. Isso permite revelar essa concepção como fruto da complexa influência sobre ele de múltiplas tendências internas ao transcendentalismo dominante no ambiente intelectual alemão de sua formação, que lhe legam simultaneamente a identificação do indivíduo com o sujeito epistêmico cuja atividade é de interesse ao epistemólogo e a exigência de que esse mostre de que forma essa atividade individual pode pretender à validade intersubjetiva. A originalidade das propostas de Carnap aparece como resultante de suas tentativas de conciliar diferentes aspectos de sua herança transcendentalista, os quais, no entanto, são responsáveis pelas tensões que explicam as transformações por que passam tais propostas ao longo do período estudado e que, ao final desse, restando insuperadas essas tensões, preparam as condições para sua posterior renúncia a um projeto epistemológico.

Abstract: The present work provides a critical reconstruction of Rudolf Carnap?s programs in the period stretching from his first academic publications to Der logische Aufbau der Welt in 1928. Focusing on the conception of epistemology at play in these programs, they are examined from a historical perspective, highlighting the sources of their presuppositions in past philosophical tradition. This conception is thus revealed as arising from the complex influence on Carnap of multiple tendencies internal to the transcendentalism which prevailed in the German intellectual scene of his education. These simultaneously bequeath him the identity between the individual and the epistemic subject whose activity is of interest to the epistemologist and the demand that it be shown how this individual activity can aspire to intersubjective validity. The originality of Carnap?s proposals appears as the result of his attempt to reconcile different aspects of his transcendentalist heritage. These, however, are responsible for the tensions which explain the transformations that such proposals undergo during the time frame in question and that, not having been overcome by the end of it, set the conditions for his eventual renunciation of an epistemological project.
