Sociologia da sorte: as condicionantes sociais do ingresso por sorteio no Colégio de Aplicação da UFSC

Abstract

O presente trabalho é um esforço de compreender sociologicamente quais são as condicionantes sociais que levam os estudantes ao ingresso no Colégio de Aplicação da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. O tema ganha pertinência pois, desde 1992, o colégio adotou como forma de distribuição de vagas o sorteio. A partir disso, este estudo empreende uma ?sociologia da sorte?, a fim de buscar elencar quais fatores sociais são determinantes nas estratégias e trajetórias familiares que levaram ao ingresso, analisando as narrativas de responsáveis por estudantes. Ao todo, foram realizadas dez entrevistas semiestruturadas, todas com mães de alunos e, a partir de referenciais teóricos como Pierre Bourdieu e François Dubet, discutindo teoricamente o ?sistema de desigualdades múltiplas? enquanto uma forma individualizada de experienciar as desigualdades sociais, juntamente com a ?economia dos capitais simbólicos?, localizando o agente na estrutura social. Deste modo, foi possível observar não só como os agentes percebem e significam as estratégias escolares, mas também o próprio campo de possibilidades. Como resultados, diagnosticou-se que o capital cultural é fundamental na edificação das estratégias escolares, porém, é fortemente reforçado e legitimado pelo capital social. Além disso, percebeu-se dois tipos de trajetórias. Em primeiro lugar, as mais naturalizadas, em que o capital cultural é mais presente e o capital social exerce uma função de legitimar um ?caminho irresistível?. No outro grupo, percebeu-se trajetórias em que o ingresso no Colégio de Aplicação é menos naturalizado e tido como uma conquista maior, sendo mais dependente de círculos sociais edificados em espaços que as mães acessaram por conta de seu capital cultural. Por fim, destaca-se também a maior influência do capital cultural materno, bem como outras desigualdades como racial, de gênero e cultural.

Abstract: This dissertation is an effort to gain a sociological understanding of the social factors that lead students to enter the laboratory school of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The topic is pertinent because, since 1992, the school has adopted the lottery as its way of distributing places. This study undertakes a ?sociology of luck? in order to identify which social factors are decisive in the strategies and family trajectories that lead to admission, by analyzing the narratives of those responsible for the students. A total of ten semi-structured interviews were carried out, all with mothers of students and, based on theoretical references such as Pierre Bourdieu and François Dubet, theoretically discussing the system of multiple inequalities, as an individualized way of experiencing social inequalities, together with the economy of symbolic capitals, locating the agent in the social structure. In this way, it was possible to observe not only how agents perceive and signify school strategies, but also the field of possibilities itself. The results showed that cultural capital is fundamental in building school strategies, but that it is strongly reinforced and legitimized by social capital. In addition, two types of trajectories were identified. Firstly, the more naturalized ones, in which cultural capital is more present and social capital plays a role in legitimizing an irresistible path. In the other group, there were trajectories in which entry to the UFSC?s laboratory school was less naturalized and seen as a major achievement, being more dependent on social circles built up in spaces that the mothers accessed because of their cultural capital. Finally, the greater influence of maternal cultural capital was also highlighted, as well as other inequalities such as racial, gender and cultural.
