Vivendo deliciosamente: uma análise do feminino e da sexualidade em A Bruxa (2015)

Abstract

Este Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso tem como fonte o filme A Bruxa (2015), escrito e dirigido por Robert Eggers. A problemática da pesquisa se originou da seguinte indagação: considerando que o filme é classificado dentro do gênero do horror, como então que o horror se configura em A Bruxa? A partir da hipótese inicial de que, neste filme, o horror se constrói através dos elementos de gênero e sexualidade presentes nas personagens Thomasin e a bruxa da floresta, os principais objetivos com o presente trabalho são: identificar como o horror se constrói ao longo do filme; analisar como elementos de gênero e de sexualidade se apresentam nele; e traçar uma relação entre horror, o feminino e a sexualidade em A Bruxa. Para tanto, após a apresentação e contextualização do trabalho de Eggers com o roteiro e a direção do longa, considerações teóricas a respeito do trabalho com Cinema e História são feitas e, em seguida oito sequências selecionadas são analisadas, para enfim ponderamos sobre como os elementos de gênero e sexualidade podem ser vistos como a chave do horror do filme. Esta análise se fundamenta em dois principais conceitos: o medo social, proposto por Rafaela Barbieri em sua tese de doutorado e o horror histórico, cunhado por Gabriela Larocca também em sua tese de doutoramento.

The source for this Undergraduate Thesis is the film The Witch (2015), written and directed by Robert Eggers. The research’s problem originated from the following question: considering that the film is classified within the horror genre, how then is horror configured in The Witch? Based on the initial hypothesis that, in this film, the horror is constructed through the elements of gender and sexuality present in the characters Thomasin and the witch of the woods, the main objectives of this work are: to identify how horror is constructed throughout the film; to analyze how elements of gender and sexuality are presented in it; and to draw a relationship between horror, the feminine and sexuality in The Witch. To this end, after the presentation and contextualization of Eggers' work with the script and direction of the film, theoretical considerations regarding the work with Cinema and History are made and, then, eight selected sequences are analyzed, to finally consider how the elements of gender and sexuality can be seen as the key to the film's horror. This analysis is based on two main concepts: social fear, proposed by Rafaela Barbieri in her doctoral thesis, and historical horror, coined by Gabriela Larocca also in her doctoral thesis.
