Abstract

Nos Últimos Anos, a carga imediata em implantes tem sido mais aceita como um protocolo padronizado para o tratamento de mandíbulas totalmente edêntulas. Os pioneiros na odontologia de implantes freqüentemente experimentaram essa técnica, mas obtiveram apenas sucessos parciais. Uma das principais razões do fracasso dessas primeiras tentativas foi a falta de compreensão a respeito dos princípios biológicos e mecânicos que agora sabemos que são necessários para o sucesso clínico. Os implantes com carga imediata devem ficar estáveis depois da inserção e receber uma contenção protética rígida ao longo da curvatura do arco. Além disso, não se deve mexer na prótese instalada durante o processo de cicatrização, que ocorre aproximadamente em três meses após a colocação. Estas diretrizes simplesmente permitiram o desenvolvimento de um protocolo protético-cirúrgico que tornou esta técnica de prótese tipo protocolo em um tratamento previsível para muitos pacientes que de outra forma, teriam tido de usar suas dentaduras durante o período de cicatrização ou até mesmo sem ficar sem elas durante o período pós-cirúrgico.
