Phantasmagoria de Carroll e o nonsense literário

Abstract

Partindo da compreensão de que o nonsense carrolliano não elimina o sentido, mas o reorganiza com base em uma lógica própria, subvertendo as estruturas tradicionais da linguagem, exploramos o que é a tradução literária à margem de Lewis Carroll. Com base em teorias da tradução de autores como Jakobson, Berman, Venuti, Eco, Bassnett e outros, discute-se os principais desafios da tradução literária, especialmente da poesia nonsense, incluindo neologismos, ritmo, rima e ambiguidade. Propomos, também, uma análise comparativa entre traduções humanas e aquelas geradas por inteligência artificial (em específico, nesse caso, o ChatGPT), evidenciando as limitações das máquinas na recriação de textos com características estéticas e poéticas. A partir disso, explicita-se que a tradução de poesia é um ato criativo e interpretativo, que exige sensibilidade literária e conhecimento profundo da língua e da cultura de origem e de chegada. O trabalho está estruturado em três eixos principais: a análise do nonsense em Carroll, o estudo teórico da tradução e a proposta de tradução comentada. A escassez de traduções de Phantasmagoria em língua portuguesa e o crescimento dos debates sobre inteligência artificial e tradução literária justificam a relevância da pesquisa.

Abstract: Based on the understanding that Carrollian nonsense does not eliminate meaning, but reorganizes it based on a logic of its own, subverting the traditional structures of language, we explore what literary translation is in Lewis Carroll's margins. Based on theories of translation by authors such as Jakobson, Berman, Venuti, Eco, Bassnett and others, we discuss the main challenges of literary translation, especially of nonsense poetry, including neologisms, rhythm, rhyme and ambiguity. We also propose a comparative analysis between human translations and those generated by artificial intelligence (specifically, in this case, ChatGPT), highlighting the limitations of machines in recreating texts with aesthetic and poetic characteristics. From this, it becomes clear that the translation of poetry is a creative and interpretative act, which requires literary sensitivity and in-depth knowledge of the language and culture of origin and arrival. The work is structured along three main lines: an analysis of Carroll's nonsense, a theoretical study of translation and a proposal for an annotated translation. The scarcity of translations of Phantasmagoria in Portuguese and the growing debates on artificial intelligence and literary translation justify the relevance of this research.
