Something Eternal: ficção e comunidade em um fórum de fãs de Revolutionary Girl Utena

Abstract

Este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar o engajamento e os usos da ficção por parte de fãs da série de animação japonesa Revolutionary Girl Utena que são membros da comunidade de fãs conhecida como Empty Movement e de seu fórum, Something Eternal. Através de uma etnografia digital e de entrevistas semi-estruturadas, observei e conheci de que forma esses fãs dialogam com a mídia ficcional que é Utena e como interpretam o que é ser fã e fazer parte de uma comunidade de fãs como Empty Movement. Assim, utilizando de referências da Antropologia Digital, Antropologia da Mídia, Literatura e Estudos de Fãs, reflito sobre a ficção e sobre Utena enquanto uma trama que torna a comunidade possível. Ela se conecta com cada fã e permite que fãs se conectem entre si, compartilhando interpretações não somente sobre o mundo ficcional de Utena mas sobre seus próprios mundos.

The present work aimed to investigate engagement and uses of fiction by fans of the Japanese anime series Revolutionary Girl Utena who are also members of the fan community known as Empty Movement and of its forum, Something Eternal. Through digital ethnography and semi-structured interviews, I observed and learned how these fans interact with the fictional medium that is Utena and how they understand what it means to be a fan and to be part of a fan community like Empty Movement. Thus, using references from Digital Anthropology, Anthropology of Media, Literature, and Fan Studies, I reflect on fiction and on Utena as a narrative that makes the community possible. It connects with each fan and allows fans to connect with each other, sharing their readings not only of the fictional world of Utena but of their own worlds.
