A influência do estresse psicológico na doença periodontal: uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a influência do estresse psicológico na manifestação e progressão da periodontite. Foram abordadas as diferentes estratégias metodológicas utilizadas para investigar a influência do estresse psicológico na periodontite e o conhecimento produzido sobre o assunto até o presente. Revisou-se a literatura, através da consulta à base de dados eletrônica PubMed, incluindo o uso dos seguintes termos controlados: "Periodontal Diseases"[mesh] e ("Stress, Psychological"[mesh] OR "Anxiety"[mesh] OR "Life change events"[mesh] OR "Anxiety disorders"[mesh] OR “Adaptation, Psychological"[mesh]). Os dois grupos de termos foram combinados entre si por meio do operador booleano “AND”. Os critérios de inclusão envolveram estudos realizados em seres humanos que pesquisaram a influência do estresse ou da ansiedade na manifestação ou progressão da periodontite. O conjunto dos trabalhos revisados sugeriu que são inúmeras as técnicas utilizadas para examinar a associação de interesse. Concluiu-se que dos 48 estudos revisados, 37 identificaram alguma relação entre os fatores psicológicos negativos e a manifestação ou progressão da periodontite. Sendo assim, podemos sugerir que existe influência dos fatores psicológicos na periodontite. No entanto, os mecanismos através dos quais os fatores psicológicos causam efeitos sobre a periodontite ainda não estão claros.

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of psychological stress in the manifestation and progression of periodontitis. We assessed the different methodological strategies used to investigate the influence of psychological stress in periodontitis and the knowledge produced on the subject to date. We reviewed the literature by consulting the electronic database PubMed, including the use of the following controlled terms: "Periodontal Diseases" [mesh] and ("Stress, Psychological" [mesh] OR "Anxiety" [mesh] OR "Life change events "[mesh] OR" Anxiety disorders "[mesh] OR" Adaptation, Psychological "[mesh]). The two groups of terms were combined using the Boolean operator "AND". Inclusion criteria involved studies in humans that investigated the influence of stress or anxiety in the manifestation or progression of periodontitis. All the studies reviewed suggested that there are numerous techniques used to examine the association of interest. It was concluded that of the 48 studies reviewed, 37 have identified a relationship between the negative psychological factors and the manifestation or progression of periodontitis. Thus, we can suggest that there is influence of psychological factors in periodontitis. However, the mechanisms by which psychological factors cause effects on periodontitis are still unclear.
