A jornada do cientista: uma análise da História da Ciência em livros didáticos do Ensino Médio

Abstract

O mito do herói é utilizado por diferentes culturas e religiões. No entanto, além da utilização histórica, esse mito passou a ser utilizado na história da ciência. Esse uso pode ser chamado de pseudo-história, um tipo de história da ciência que utiliza fatos de forma seletiva, promovendo imagens enganosas da figura do cientista e da natureza da ciência. Com os anos, a pseudo-história encontrou um reduto nos livros didáticos de ciências e por consequência, nas salas de aula. Levando isso em consideração, este trabalho procurou identificar nos livros didáticos para o Ensino Médio aprovados pelo PNLEM/2021 como os cientistas estão sendo representados nas obras, assim como se a pseudo-história continua presente. Sete coleções foram estudadas. Todas as citações, referências e contextualizações aos cientistas foram destacadas, antes que esses dados fossem submetidos a dois recortes: área do conhecimento e gênero. Além disso, os dados foram organizados em duas grandes categorias (A e B) com subcategorias (A0 a A6 e B0 a B6). A categoria A se referia aos cientistas citados no texto central/contínuo e a B a cientistas citados nos textos laterais. Por fim, foram utilizadas as citações referentes a Charles Darwin na busca mais aprofundada pela pseudo-história. Foram identificadas 1436 citações a cientistas nas coleções. Foi encontrado uma supremacia de citações referentes a cientistas da Física (42,76%) em detrimento das demais áreas das ciências naturais. Além de ter sido identificada uma ampla maioria de nomes de cientistas masculinos (92,55%) em contraste às cientistas mulheres. A maioria dos cientistas citados (82,94%) estava presente apenas nos textos centrais/contínuos ou também nos textos laterais. Mais da metade desses cientistas (55,16%), contudo, era meramente uma citação sem qualquer profundidade. Para os poucos que receberam mais do que uma citação, houve inclusão de contribuições prévias e de colaboradores, além de falas diretas e/ou partes de livros autorais referenciados e fotos e/ou ilustrações dos cientistas. Por outro lado, cientistas que foram citados apenas nos textos laterais (17,06%) tiveram destaque para a presença de fotos e/ou ilustrações deles, de explicações acerca do desenvolvimento dos estudos, e alguma forma de contextualização. Na busca pela pseudo-história nas contextualizações referentes a Darwin, dois dos elementos de busca – a monumentalidade e a idealização – foram encontrados em menos da metade das coleções. O terceiro elemento – o drama afetivo – estava ausente. Enquanto que o quarto elemento – a narrativa explicativa e de justificação – foi amplamente utilizado. Diante de todos os resultados encontrados, foi possível notar mudanças acontecendo nos novos livros didáticos. Porém, alguns problemas continuam e novos vão aparecendo. Dessa forma, mesmo com as mudanças, os livros ainda estão distantes do modelo ideal já tão discutido pela comunidade acadêmica.

The myth of the hero is used by different cultures and religions. However, in addition to historical use, this myth began to be used in the history of science. This use can be called pseudohistory, a type of history of science that uses facts selectively, promoting misleading images of the figure of the scientist and the nature of science. Over the years, the pseudohistory has found a stronghold in science textbooks and consequently in classrooms. Taking this into consideration, this study sought to identify in the textbooks for high school approved by PNLEM/2021 how scientists are being represented in the works, as well as whether pseudohistory is still present. Seven collections were studied. All citations, references and contextualizations to the scientists were highlighted, before these data were submitted to two clippings: knowledge and gender. In addition, the data were organized into two major categories (A and B) with subcategories (A0 to A6 and B0 to B6). Category A referred to the scientists mentioned in the central/continuous text and B to scientists cited in the lateral texts. Finally, the citations referring to Charles Darwin were used in the most in-depth search for pseudohistory. A total of 1,436 citations were identified to scientists in the collections. A supremacy of citations referring to physics scientists (42.76%) was found to the detriment of other areas of the natural sciences. In addition to having been identified a large majority of names of male scientists (92.55%) in contrast to female scientists. Most of the scientists mentioned (82.94%) were present only in the central/continuous texts or also in the lateral texts. More than half of these scientists (55.16%), however, were merely a citation without any depth. For the few who received more than one citation, there was inclusion of previous contributions and collaborators, in addition to direct speeches and/or parts of referenced copyright books and photos and/or illustrations of scientists. On the other hand, scientists who were mentioned only in the lateral texts (17.06%) highlighted the presence of photos and/or illustrations of them, explanations about the development of studies, and some form of contextualization. In the search for pseudo-history in the contextualizations referring to Darwin, two of the search elements – monumentality and idealization – were found in less than half of the collections. The third element – the affective drama – was absent. While the fourth element – the explanatory and justification narrative – was widely used. In view of all the results found, it was possible to notice changes happening in the new textbooks. However, some problems continue and new ones are appearing. Thus, even with the changes, the books are still far from the ideal model already so discussed by the academic community.
