This paper intends to address the importance of planning the use of materials in product
design, as a tool to reduce the amount of material discarded, comparing similar processes
in two types of industry: in the furniture industry, the cutting plan; In graphic design, the
use of paper. For this, it presents as a case study the collection Cosac Naif Portable,
launched in 2012. In this collection, there was a good use of paper and, although
sustainability was not a prerequisite of design, the initial planning stages and graphic
design have resulted in a sustainable product. In a time of discussion about the scarcity of natural resources, the approach to products and artifacts produced in a more rational way
are of great importance for the better use of materials and for the reduction of the amount
of solid waste generated in industry, pointing out paths to development effectively
sustainable products. |
